Not strictly a Blitz Victim, but she was a G.M.
Civilian.   Her death caused by a German torpedo
in place of a German H.E. bomb.
The "City of Benares" was an 11,000 ton passenger
ship that was in Convoy OB-213 that left Liverpool
on the 13th
September 1940 bound for Canada.  On board were 90
children, from the CORB (Children's Overseas
Reception Board), otherwise known as the
Cor-Blimey's).  She was torpedoed by U-48 and
sunk.  In all, 260 of the 407 on board perished.
